Covid-19 Coverage Information

 

Tin Leg understands our customers have faced ongoing travel complications related to the Covid-19 pandemic, and that many of our travelers may have questions about which travel insurance benefits can be applied. Travelers with questions or concerns about their trips can find applicable benefits and coverage descriptions for each of Tin Leg’s policies listed below.

 

 

For Tin Leg Economy, Standard, Luxury, Adventure, USA Only, Basic, and Platinum policies:

 

Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption coverage for Covid-19

Tin Leg’s Economy, Standard, Luxury, Adventure, USA Only, Basic, and Platinum policies all include Cancel for Covid-19 Sickness coverage. For coverage to apply, the traveler or their traveling companion must test positive for Covid-19 before their trip or during their trip, and cancel their trip outright.

Similarly, coverage can apply if a non-traveling family member contracts Covid-19 as well. If a family member becomes seriously ill or if they require care from a traveling family member, this situation could necessitate canceling a trip, which can be reimbursed by the insurance policy.

Canceling a trip because of other Covid-19 related issues including fear of traveling, border closures, or travel advisories can only be covered by a policy with the Cancel For Any Reason upgrade. Of these policies, only the Tin Leg Luxury and Tin Leg Adventure policies offer the CFAR benefit. Cancel For Any Reason can provide reimbursement of 50-75% of the total insured trip cost if the traveler cancels. Unless a policy specifically excludes the traveler’s reason, they can decide to cancel their trip up to 48 hours prior to departure.

Emergency Medical and Medical Evacuation coverage for Covid-19

Tin Leg’s Economy, Standard, Luxury, Adventure, USA Only, Basic, and Platinum policies all include Medical Coverage for Covid-19. These policies can provide Emergency Medical coverage for a traveler’s incurred medical expenses if they become infected with Covid-19 and must receive treatment during their trip. These covered expenses can include physician services and hospital fees among other costs associated with care. These policies also include Medical Evacuation coverage if the illness or injury requires transportation to the nearest adequate medical center.

Travel Delay coverage for Quarantine due to Covid-19

In the event a traveler tests positive for Covid-19 and must quarantine before returning home, they can be covered under the Travel Delay benefit. This benefit can reimburse a traveler for the cost of their meals and accommodations during the quarantine, up to the policy’s daily limit. This coverage may be extended up to 7 days after the traveler’s return home date, or until they are cleared to return home, whichever takes place first. Depending on the plan, Coverage through this benefit ranges from $500 to $2,000.

 

Coverage Statement for Tin Leg Silver and Gold policies:

 

Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption coverage for Covid-19

Tin Leg’s Silver and Gold policies include Cancel For Covid-19 Sickness coverage. In order for a traveler to be covered to cancel or interrupt their trip due to Covid-19, the traveler or their traveling companion would need to test positive for Covid-19, with a documented diagnosis from a licensed medical professional, and provide documentation proving their cancellation.

Similarly, coverage can apply if a non-traveling family member contracts Covid-19 as well. If a family member becomes seriously ill or if they require care from a traveling family member, this situation could necessitate canceling a trip, which can be reimbursed by the insurance policy.

For travelers who are worried about travel advisories, wanting to cancel for fear of traveling, or border closures, the Cancel For Any Reason upgrade can provide coverage for these situations. Both the Tin Leg Silver and Gold policies offer the Cancel For Any Reason upgrade and provide 50-75% reimbursement for prepaid, non-refundable trip costs when a traveler cancels their trip for most reasons excluded from traditional cancellation coverage.

Tin Leg’s Silver and Gold policies include Medical Coverage for Covid-19. These Tin Leg policies can provide Emergency Medical coverage to reimburse a traveler’s incurred medical expenses if they contract Covid-19 during their trip, such as hospital bills, physician fees, and similar costs incurred. These policies also include Medical Evacuation coverage if a traveler needs transportation to the nearest medical facility.

Extension of Coverage for Quarantine due to Covid-19

In the event a traveler must quarantine due to a positive Covid-19 test, and cannot return home as scheduled, some coverages, including Trip Interruption and Medical benefits, can be extended. These benefits may extend up to 7 days after the traveler’s original return home date or until they are cleared to travel, whichever takes place first.

Do Tin Leg Policies Cover Covid-19?

Tin Leg’s policies can provide coverage for travelers who contract Covid-19 and must either cancel their trip, receive medical attention while traveling, or quarantine at their destination.

Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption benefits for contracting Covid-19 are available within all Tin Leg policies. Trip Cancellation can reimburse a traveler’s prepaid and non-refundable trip expenses in the event of an unforeseen circumstance that causes them to cancel their trip entirely, such as testing positive Covid-19 prior to departure. These covered trip expenses typically include accommodations, flights, and prepaid tours or tickets.

If a traveler contracts Covid-19 while traveling and must cut their trip short or quarantine, they can be covered by the Trip Interruption benefit. This benefit can refund travelers up to 150% of their unused trip costs.

In addition to cancellation benefits, all Tin Leg policies also include Emergency Medical and Medical Evacuation coverage. Emergency Medical coverage can provide reimbursement if a traveler contracts Covid-19 and requires treatment. Medical Evacuation can provide reimbursement if a traveler needs to be taken to the nearest medical facility, transferred to a different facility, or even transported home under a physician’s requirement. If a traveler tests positive for Covid and must quarantine beyond their original return home date, their policy’s benefits may be extended for a maximum of 7 days.

Can I Cancel My Trip for Fear of Travel Due to The Pandemic?

The only benefit that allows travelers to cancel due to fear of traveling is Cancel For Any Reason.

Fear of traveling is not covered under standard Trip Cancellation policies. However, travelers who purchase Cancel For Any Reason can be covered for a wide variety of reasons that are not covered by Trip Cancellation, including fear of traveling, as well as other reasons such as border closures or a travel advisory.

Cancel For Any Reason is available with the Tin Leg Luxury, Adventure, Silver, and Gold policies. This benefit can reimburse travelers up to 75% of their trip expenses.

What Types of Coverage Do I Need for the Pandemic?

For travelers who are concerned about Covid-19 impacting their trip, Tin Leg offers comprehensive policies with coverage for Covid-related. Specifically, we recommend a policy with coverage for cancellations, medical emergencies, and quarantines.

If a traveler contracts Covid-19 prior to departure, Trip Cancellation coverage can provide reimbursement up to 100% of their non-refundable and prepaid trip costs, including flights, accommodations, excursions, and tours, among other trip expenses.

Emergency Medical can provide reimbursement if a traveler contracts Covid-19 while traveling and incurs expenses for medical care, such as hospital bills, physician fees, and x-ray costs. In the event the illness requires an emergency evacuation, Medical Evacuation coverage can reimburse travel expenses to get to the nearest adequate medical center or even home for treatment if cleared for travel.

In the event a traveler contracts Covid-19 and is quarantined, they may be eligible for reimbursement of unused travel expenses, or additional expenses incurred during the quarantine, depending on the plan. If the quarantine prevents the traveler’s return home, all Tin Leg plans can extend coverage up to 7 days following the scheduled return date.

How Do I make sure my Tin Leg policy satisfies a country’s entry requirement?

Tin Leg policies include the benefits that are typically required by destinations that mandate travel insurance, most commonly medical benefits and quarantine coverage. However, these requirements vary significantly depending on a traveler’s destination, so we always recommend travelers check with their specific destination to confirm their policy meets the specific requirements. What Happens If I Contract Covid-19 Overseas and Need to Extend My Policy?

All Tin Leg policies can be extended up to 7 days if a traveler cannot return home on time due to an unforeseen illness or injury, including contracting Covid-19 or being medically required to quarantine. In order for coverage to apply, the traveler must have a documented diagnosis from a licensed medical professional.
