Both Trip Cancellation and Cancel for Any Reason offer coverage to cancel a trip, however there are many important differences between the two benefits. The main difference between Trip Cancellation and Cancel for Any Reason, is that Cancel for Any Reason is an optional upgrade that allows a traveler to cancel their trip and receive 75% reimbursement for any reason that is not otherwise covered by the standard Trip Cancellation coverage.
Trip Cancellation
The standard Trip Cancellation benefit included in Tin Leg policies provides reimbursement for prepaid and non-refundable trip costs if a trip is cancelled due to one of the policy’s covered reasons. Covered reasons typically include an unexpected illness, injury, or death of a traveler or non-traveling family member, or a cancellation due to a common carrier delay. Other covered reasons may include inclement weather, natural disasters, terrorist attacks, or mechanical breakdown of the common carrier which causes complete cessation of travel services at the point of departure or destination for a minimum of 48 hours for our Economy policy, 24 hours for our Standard policy or 12 hours for our Luxury policy. Bankruptcy or default of your travel supplier, termination of employment, direct involvement or delay due to a traffic accident while en route to departure, as well as a few other events can also be included as eligible reasons for cancellation coverage.
Cancel for Any Reason
Cancel for Any Reason can be included in the Tin Leg Standard and Luxury policies for an additional premium. In order to be eligible for this upgrade, the policy must be purchased within 14 days of the initial trip payment, and 100% of the trip costs must be insured. This optional coverage can reimburse travelers up to 75% of the prepaid, forfeited, non-refundable trip costs if the trip is cancelled at least three days before the policy’s departure date.
Tin Leg typically only recommends purchasing a Cancel for Any Reason policy if a traveler has a specific concern that isn’t otherwise covered under the standard Trip Cancellation benefit.
